DULUTH, Min. –  A Duluth man has been charged with nine counts of felony mail theft.

Duluth Police say Gerald August Mattson stole nine packages over the time span from December 31, 2025 to January 21, 2026.

The packages were intended for various apartments in the Grandview Manor on East 2nd Street in Duluth.  That is where Mattson lives.

The charging documents say Mattson was caught on video stealing the packages.

The court documents say some of the packages were discovered in Mattson’s residence, “A lot of the stolen packages were found unopened in the Defendant’s apartment. Several of the packages were opened, but the items were recovered and returned to the rightful owners.”

The documents did not say if Mattson stated an alleged motive for the thefts.

Mattson made his first appearance in court on January 23, 2026.  He is slated to be back in court in mid-March.
