Duluth family child care provider has license temporarily suspended after alleged child injury
DULUTH, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) is immediately suspending the license of of Duluth based Child Care Provider, Kali Ames.
The suspension pertains to child care activities at 912 West 9th Street, Duluth.
The letter to Ames says, “This immediate suspension is based on a determination that children served by your program are at an imminent risk of harm.”
It continues to allege, “St. Louis County received a report regarding your family child care program. The report alleged a child in your care sustained injuries that were not consistent with the explanation you gave.”
DCYF said in their letter, “Because your program is currently being investigated by St. Louis County, no additional information can be released in this order.”
FOX 21 asked St. Louis County for more information on what the complaint entailed. We were told that information is not publicly available at this point in time. These investigations often take two months or more.
The section of law quoted in the that was used to do the temporary immediate suspension says, “The commissioner shall act immediately to temporarily suspend a license issued under this chapter if: the license holder’s actions or failure to comply with applicable law or rule, or the actions of other individuals or conditions in the program, pose an imminent risk of harm to the health, safety, or rights of persons served by the program”.
The child care provider has the opportunity to appeal the suspension, but has not done so as of the afternoon of February 27, 2026.
