“Jump Rope For Heart” Joins Joy With Movement at Duluth Charter School
DULUTH, Minn. — Jumping rope is a timeless tradition for school kids wanting a fun way to exercise.
But students at the Duluth Edison Charter Schools Northstar Academy (DECS) are jumping rope for a good cause.
“For us the big thing is just to join joy with movement,” said P.E. teacher Sonja Riddle. “So to just try to encourage the kids to have lifelong activity.”
“Jump Rope for Heart” is a fundraiser for the American Heart Association.
And these kids have been raising funds for the past several weeks.
“It’s just the ultimate teamwork,” Riddle said. “And of course in P.E. we’re always working on teamwork, but those kids are understanding the connection of helping others.”
The American Heart Association uses these funds for research, education, and treatments for heart health.
DECS students have raised thousands of dollars for this cause over the years.
