Hockey Day Minnesota In Its Final Preparation Stage
Hockey Day is Saturday
The 10th annual Hockey day Minnesota kicks off tomorrow and local organizers are finishing up their last minute preparations
“A lot of tent set up and setting up the walking ways and fire pits and those kinds of things just to add to the ambiance and feel of the day,” said Andy Reierson, member of the Local Organizing Committee for Hockey Day Minnesota.
The Minnesota Wild, along with Fox sports North and Minnesota Hockey announced that the 2016 Hockey Day would be held at Duluth’s Bayfront Park, July of last year.
“The community buzz has been just great I think everywhere our group goes, our local organization goes people are asking us how things are going, how it’s progressing, it seems like there’s a lot of interest,” said Reierson.
Since the announcement was made, community members have worked tirelessly to make the event a reality.
The event has even brought out a retired Zamboni driver back on the ice. Walt Bruley surfaced indoor rinks for 37 years.
“This is really something special with this hockey day Minnesota,” said Bruley.
He says it’s the people coming together for the event that makes it worth it.
“It shows what this community is and how we can work together and do this great thing,” he said.
