West Duluth Remembers Melvin Stelton

89-Year-Old Was Struck, Killed While Crossing Street

The West Duluth community took time Thursday to share memories of Melvin Stelton.  Police identified Stelton as the victim involved with the fatal pedestrian accident Wednesday night.

Shelton had a quick wit and was a wonderful jokester, according to Melissa Peterson, an employee at the Holiday gas station near Grand Avenue.

“He would always have a little pep in his step.” Peterson said. A man who spent his days helping out his community and gathering carts off the street.”

Stelton was 89 years old and lived near by in an assisted-living facility.

Police say the two drivers who struck him will not be charged with a crime, as it was a tragic accident.
