St. Luke’s Hospital Donates $100,000 for End of Life Planning Programs

St. Luke's hospital donated 100 thousand dollars to the advance

St. Luke’s hospital donated $100,000 dollars to the advance Care planning Northeast Minnesota initiative today.

The money will be used for the first year of program planning and stepping up efforts to help individuals and families with difficult end–of life decisions.

“If we talk to our patients, we find that 80 percent of them, they don’t want to be at a hospital when they die, and they certainly don’t want to be at an intensive care unit,” said Cynthia Weaver, a Doctor at St. Luke’s.

Research has shown advance care planning is often under-utilized.

This can result in pain and unnecessary spending.
