VFW Hosts Annual Christmas Dinner
Around 400 People Attend Event Each Year
Veterans and community members gathered together for The Veterans of Foreign Wars annual holiday dinner.
The VFW had lines coming out their door as people waited for their holiday dinner of turkey, mashed potatoes, and all the fixings.
“It’s completely free and it’s donation based so everyone in the community can donate, time or money,” said Angela Cunningham, the Event Organizer.
She said many of the volunteers have been giving a little bit of their time for years, some even decades.
Benjamin Lee Hatton donated his time to the event for the 5th year. This year he was in charge of all of the cooking
“We cooked 52 turkeys, 350 lbs of potatoes, 200 lbs of carrots, 7 ginormous pans of stuffing, all made from scratch,” he said.
According to organizers, the event has been going on for almost 30 years, and is open to all those who want to attend.
“VFW likes to give back to the community, it’s a big tradition in the military to serve others,” said Cunningham.
From college students to veterans, Community members from a variety of backgrounds attend the event, many who are not able to spend the holiday with their families.
Hats, gloves and scarves were given out to those who attended.
