Duluth Community Remembers Victims Of Gun Violence

Monday marks the third anniversary of Sandy Hook, the elementary school massacre in Newtown, Connecticut that claimed the lives of 26 people, with 20 of those killed being children.

And it’s been almost two weeks since the horrific shooting that occurred in California killing 14.

Members from all parts of the Northland Community took part in Monday’s demonstration to remember victims of gun violence.

At Lake Place Plaza in downtown Duluth victim’s name were read aloud before each ringing of the bell.

Mary Streufert a demonstrator said,”You know the gun they used at Sandy Hook could shoot like a lot of bullet in like second and who needs that. The purpose of those guns are to kill people.”

Streufert lost her daughter to gun violence and she along with other demonstrators wants our legislators to take the time and tighten up state wide gun regulations.

“We have some loopholes for one thing you can go to a gun show or you can go on online and buy a gun without a background check.”

The organizer of the event are hoping the demonstration will provide community awareness and the hope of a safer future.

Streufert continued,”I know it’s not going to stop all the shooting..we know that but if it keeps your loved one from getting shot it will mean a lot”
