Great Lake Aquarium Makes Request To City Council For Additional Funding

City Council Will Look Into Giving The Great Lakes Aquarium Funding From The City's Tourist Tax

The Great Lake Aquarium leaders are reaching out for more help to finance the new exhibit, The Amazing World of the Unsalted Seas.

This week representatives from the aquarium will ask Duluth City Council members to dip into money from the city’s tourism tax fund surplus to make this new exhibit happen.

The city has already given the aquarium $360,000 for the project this year.

The money will go towards adding an entire new gallery space.

That space will include up to 3,500 square feet. The exhibit will tell the story of lakes around the world including our own lake superior.

The aquarium is hoping to have the exhibit open by August of 2016
