Lake Superior Zoo Exchanging Tigers for Breeding Program

The Lake Superior Zoo is exchanging tigers with a Nebraska Zoo for a breeding program.
Ussuri the male tiger that currently lives at the Superior Zoo is part of a species survival plan program for more tigers. He is one of 133 tigers amur tigers who lives in captivity in the United States, and there are less than 500 amur tigers left in the wild.
“He will be living with a female named Nika at the riverside discovery center, where hopefully they’ll be able to produce a litter,” said Macie Sykes, the Director of Animal Management.
Nika’s sister Lana will be coming to the Lake Superior Zoo to take his place.
