Mercy Hospital in Moose Lake celebrated the completion of a $38 million dollar renovation project with a grand opening and ribbon cutting.
Community members were invited to attend the event which featured several speakers, followed by a tour of the hospital.
The project took more than two years to complete, but hospital officials say the upgrade was much needed.
“The original hospital was built in the early 1960’s and we had done some additions, but we had gotten to the end of the useful life of the building in terms of doing any sort of advanced surgical procedures, any of the advanced care required today.” Said Mike Delfs, CEO of Mercy Hospital.
The existing space was remodeled, and a new two story building was added.
The expansion made it possible for the hospital to provide new services.
The new addition features an emergency department with private treatment rooms, a third surgery suite, laboratory services and more.
The hospital says without the expansion, residents of Moose Lake would have to travel to get quality health care.
