Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Hosting Tree Planting Event

Trees Being Planted for National Estuaries Day

Sorry, this video is no longer available

The Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve is looking for volunteers to help plant seedlings in the Superior Municipal Forest near the Pokegama River for National Estuaries Day.

The trees along the river play an important role of keeping soil from eroding in to the river, but the Ash trees in the area have been invaded by the emerald Ash Borer, an insect that kills the trees.

Their solution is to plant different trees along the river, such as red maple, white cedar, and Hackberry trees.

To Register to volunteer, go to the Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve Facebook page.
