Starry Stonewort Infestation on Turtle Lake

Minnesota's second known infestation of starry stonewort, an invasive form of macro algae, has been confirmed by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources on Turtle Lake, near Bemidji.

$40,000 Grant Awarded to MN to Combat White Nose Syndrome in Bats

A $40,000 grant has been awarded to Minnesota from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to research and develop a response to white-nose syndrome (WNS) in bats. This disease which is caused by a fungus from Eurasia, invades the skin of hibernating bats and disrupts their hydration and hibernation cycles, and has been killing millions of bats across the country.

St. Louis County Opens a Third Debris Site

St. Louis County is opening a gravel pit south of Ely to price a drop-off site for tree debris blown over in recent storms. The Skala pit is located on Highway 21, a sign will be posted marking the location.

Volunteers Needed for Storm Recovery

Tuesday, August 2, Team Rubicon, a rapid response team comprised of veterans giving back to the community following disasters, will be in Duluth this week. They are in need of more volunteers to join them in cleaning up debris.
