Small Winter Storm Causes Headaches for Drivers
Car Accidents Litter Duluth
Duluth saw 4.8 inches of snow, the most in 2015 so far and it left people slipping and sliding through town.
With 6 crashes and 29 vehicles that slid off the road in the area all by noon on Tuesday, tow trucks kept busy and with more snow on the way it doesn’t look like business will be slowing down.
“You try to get a little nap whenever you can, it gets pretty busy. There are a lot of nights where we are up all night and then we have to be awake during the day,” said Mark Androsky, owner of Stadium Towing.
While Androsky is cleaning up accidents the city continues to try to clear the roads as the snow continues to fall.
“It’s going to be a 24 to 36 hour event so we’ll have crews going through–out the night and make a big push to get people home safely tonight and to work safely in the morning,” said Kelly Fleissner, maintenance operations manager for Duluth.
Even with over forty crews it can be hard to get to all the roads.
“We just do the best we can, we usually try to hit the main fares where the most traffic is taking place so we try to keep those open and then once we get caught up with those we move in to the residential streets,” said Fleissner.
While Duluth works to clear the roads, it can be hard for the tow truck drivers to get to those who have fallen victim to the slick conditions.
“We don’t have any magic wand we have to take our time going there. A lot of times if it’s an accident law enforcement wants us to get there as quick as we can but i need to make sure that i arrive alive,” said Androsky.
Some tips from state patrol for those driving in these conditions are to wear your seat belt, drive slow and keep a safe distance from other vehicles.
