The University of Minnesota Duluth kicked off its Homecoming week with a corn roast.
Students gathered in Kirby Terrace to enjoy corn grilled in the husks.
The corn roast has been going on for three years.
The first year brought in 300 students, the second year brought up to 800, and this year the school was prepared for 1,000 students to show up.
“I know free food brings in college kids so one girl had the idea of roasting corn and it’s kind of been a big hit,” said Ariana Hills, traditions chair at UMD.
Organizers say Homecoming is an important week to keep students involved with the school.
Homecoming at UMD runs through Sunday, with many events going on throughout the week.
Other activities during the week include hot dog eating contests, cardboard boat races, tailgating, football, and more.
